Humbling
If you walk away from this podcast thinking, “I knew Driscoll was a bad guy,” or “Wow. Driscoll was a real jerk,” or “This podcast is just about hating Driscoll and slandering him,” then you’ve completely missed it. I never knew much about Driscoll and Mars Hill other than he was branded the “Cussing Pastor” and he went Emergent and then came back. In listening to this podcast I am humbled to repentance because of the negative view I had of Mars Hill. I am humbled by the stories of people coming to faith in Christ because of the ministry of Mark and others at Mars Hill. I rejoice that God used the church to bring about repentance and hope in the lives of so many. I am saddened to hear of the sin that went unaddressed for so long and that wasn’t really seen for so long. I am saddened to hear of the hurt that was caused by a man who proclaimed Christ but failed to live in a manner worthy of his calling. I am humbled to caution, to be on guard, to be alert, to watch my own heart, to watch the hearts of others I do ministry with, and to surround myself with those who will honestly call out sin in my own life and challenge me to walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As I listen to this podcast, I realize that I am no better than Mark and he is no worse than I am. We are all sinners guilty of the same sin of Adam and Eve and all in need of the grace and mercy of the cross. I hear Mark’s story and that could just as easily be me. No I don’t pastor a mega church. No I don’t right books or have a ministry that reaches hundred of thousands. But the same sin is crouching at my door and unless I remain humble and honest and open with those around me, I too can and will easily be devoured by sin. I challenge everyone who reads this review to listen to this podcast with a solid dose of humility. Do not cast stones at Mark Driscoll or Mars Hill. Listen and look at your own heart and life. How are you fighting against sin and your enemy who wants nothing more than to devour you and destroy you? Learn from the mistakes that took place and from the errors that were made. Learn from the heartache and the hurt that occurred. Let this sad story drive you to the cross of Christ and cast yourself upon his grace and care lest you too fall.

Really enjoy this podcast, and feel like it’s done not as an entertainment binge of a failure, but as a way to learn from mistakes. Good work!
