Frustrated social worker.
Okay, my review is actually a bit of a rant as I have a number of problems with this podcast. I’m really sorry to have to write this in such a negative tone, as I’m such a supporter of women going after their goals and passions and I have followed Georgie since she was completing her law degree so I know she’s worked incredibly hard. However, as someone who has recently graduated from a Bachelor of Social Science and who has a number of colleagues who work as qualified life coaches and mental health workers (who had to do further study to gain more certifications to be able to do this job), I’m feeling extremely frustrated at the advice given on this platform. My main problem is that Georgie is not a qualified life coach or personal development specialist. Contrary to what she may believe, going through a period of self-growth that involves changing her career from being a lawyer to entrepreneur does not give her the certification to be able to do this type of work in the way that she is doing it. In her solo episodes, she fails to recognise that everybody on this earth has different circumstances and situations, and many face different and additional barriers to “creating their dream life” (something we qualified life coaches are taught and have practice in doing). It is not as simple as Georgie makes it out to be, she says that in order to create your dream life you just need to do X, Y and Z. The advice she gives generalises the entire population and fails to recognise the personal situations of individuals. In comparison to the She’s on the Money podcast by Victoria Devine (a qualified financial advisor), which gives millennials financial advice and general guides to financial freedom, Victoria recognises and gives a disclaimer that her advice is general in nature and does not consider one’s personal circumstances, and that one thing that works for her might not work for another. It’s okay for Georgie to run a self-growth podcast, but she really needs to disclose that she’s not a professional and it is based solely on her personal experience, and that her methods may work for some but not everyone. It is not as simple as she makes it out to be. I’ve heard her say multiple times before “oh I know I’m not a health practitioner, but....” this frustrates me so much because speaking on behalf of all who are in this industry who’ve had to work extremely hard to get qualified in this area, seeing all of these influencers just jump on the bandwagon with promoting mental health and self-development when they are not qualified healthcare practitioners is just a slap across the face. In reading some other reviews, I see I’m not alone in having these thoughts as a few others have stated that she’s not a professional and shouldn’t be giving such specific health, mental health and self-development advice about something she’s not qualified in. She seems to speak so passionately, but for her to actually believe she can just give advice in this area without the education is disrespectful and harmful to vulnerable followers who will probably just get sucked into this advice because of Georgie’s social media platform, thinking that just because she built a business up from the ground that they can too, which in reality it’s not that simple. Georgie had a very large social media following before she started her businesses, which certainly would’ve been a huge advantage in achieving sales. She can most certainly share her experience, but would be better for the wider population if she actually listened to audience feedback and disclosed that she’s speaking from her own experience and that her advice is general in nature and does not consider people’s own circumstances. As a qualified social worker, my advice is to not turn to an influencer for quality life coaching and advice, but to leave it to the actual educated and certified professionals who have plenty of experience in doing this type of work. If you want quality life coaching, pay a professional who will tailor a program specific to your individual circumstances rather than an influencer’s very generic self-development course that is not built by actual professionals in the field. In addition, I find that her podcast is quite hard to listen to at times because it sounds quite scripted, as if she’s reading off notes. I know podcasters plan their shows this way, but it just sounds a bit like she’s feeling awkward or uncomfortable. I find she often talks over her guests and tends to make what they’re saying about her, always saying “I know for me personally....” she just seems to lack originality and a lot of the topics are pretty generic and not that informative, but that’s what you get from someone who is not a certified life coach. Again, just simply changing career paths does not give you the experience you need to be able to give general advice about self-development. Really sorry for the negative review, it’s not a personal attack, I’m just frustrated because this is a vulnerable field of work and Georgie should recognise that she’s not qualified in this area and she really shouldn’t be giving general advice that actually would be making a few of her audience members feel guilty for not following her advice, when in reality it’s not within their means to do what she’s telling them to do.

I have followed Georgie for a while now as a young lawyer myself I’ve really admired her ability to set goals and achieve them. Unlike other influences with social platforms when she shares a goal or a schedule she sticks to it 100% and her ability to motivate herself is second to none. There is...Read full review »
