I can’t get enough of this podcast
Several times over the past few years, my friends and I have said “oh, we could do a podcast about this or that,” only to find out our idea had already been done not once, not twice, but a dozen different ways. Boom, dead in the water. But Matt, Jenny, and Lorens? Lorenze? (sorry!) have created a refreshing and completely original take on the “album review” podcast genre in their journey to not only define, but catalog the “nu metal canon.” Here’s what I say when I recommend the podcast to friends - ahem - “These three buffons review Nu Metal albums from the 90s and 2000s and go into the band, song meanings, production, etc, to determine if it belongs in the ‘nu metal canon,’ an arbitrary catalog of bands, songs, etc that truly represent what nu metal is. It’s a fun trip down memory lane. Basically all the bands you forgot had radio hits from 1998 to 2004.” But that’s just scratching the surface. I discovered the podcast by stumbling onto the Rammstein episode (my favorite band) but kept listening because I got to re-experience, as an adult, all the other albums that shaped me and my ears in middle and high school. If I am Dante and the albums are my personal divine comedy, then Matt, Jenny, and Lorens are the three Virgils who guide listeners down a path of random knowledge, hilarious insight, and of course, frequent pit activation. This is my first time ever writing a podcast review, so therefore, I christen myself a true “ROACH RIDER FOR LIFE!”
