Description
Hosts Dallen Stanford & Robin MacDowell are joined by legend Frankie Horne for #RugbyHive Episode 13. Synonymous for running people over, Horne is one of the most famous forwards to have played on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, representing his country for 10 years. Highlights outside of steam rolling both Rugby Hive co-hosts, Horne became the first player in history to play in 50 consecutive tournaments. Itโ€™s no wonder they called him Frank the Tank. He was a member of the first ever Blitzbok 7s team to win the Series title for South Africa in 2008/2009. Horne also won a Gold medal at the 2015 Commonwealth Games against rivals New Zealand. Upon retiring in 2016, he had scored 59 tries and took part in 68 consecutive tournaments on the Sevens Series. In this episode we talk about growing up in South Africa, overcoming Doctors orders not to play contact sport, and his second love, the great outdoors. We cover his brilliant Sevens career, his 7s Dream Team, which 3 forwards are his favorite from the Blitzboks, and why Chris Dry was his best and worst room mate on tour. We discover how Horne fell into coaching rugby, and his involvement at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport (SAS). Plus one of the best pranks ever pulled by a guest on the Rugby Hive!
