Listen now
Description
Companies and organizations representing more than $12 trillion in market value, responsible for the majority of the world's renewable energy deployment, and hailing from all six populated continents, have published an open letter to world leaders. In it, they call for the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity to 11,000 GW by 2030 to be agreed at COP28 later this year. The call to action comes from a wide range of energy stakeholders. They agree that tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 will be transformative, and that COP28 is a critical moment for leaders to translate their ambition into real action to stay on the 1.5°C pathway. But what exactly are the demands? Which actors are being targeted? And are they even realistic? We talk to Bruce Douglas, CEO of the Global Renewables Alliance.   Timeline: 04:38 About the 3xRenewables by 2030 campaign 09:30 What actions in what areas are needed to achieve this global goal? Are there regional differences? 15:44 How can we do this with our limited resources? Do we have enough raw materials and manpower? 21:44 What role does nuclear power play in the letter?
