Description
Part I of a survey of (mostly) funky African music via today’s crop of excellent global reissue labels. These dedicated labels are introducing and reintroducing strains of outstanding West African music, new and old, to ears that have largely ignored the region’s under-recognized contributions to the breadth of music. We run through Hilife, Afrobeat, Gumbe, Afro-Rock, Malian Peulh, Edo Funk, Country-Folk, Agadez Rock, and then some. Next up is Part II where we’ll explore the musical gems of East Africa. AKULA!
