Best Writing Craft Podcast Bar None
Taylor is practical, caring, funny, and has great chemistry with her co-host Steve Campbell. Most writing craft shows drive me crazy because they are airy-fairy vague and never actually tell you how to do anything while holding standards of literary loftiness that don’t apply in a genre-crazed world. Taylor’s specialty is line-editing, wrestling prose into its leanest and most expressive form for maximum impact. With her Hack the Craft episodes, Taylor rehabs listener-submitted material, telling (and showing on accompanying videos) you step by step why she moves, cuts, and changes each word to achieve an immersive reader experience. Last year Taylor helped me rehab a difficult scene, which later earned “masterful” in a Kirkus review. (Fur Boys by C.A. Newsome, if you want to look it up.) You won’t find this kind of coaching anywhere else.
