It seems in your enthusiasm for Mr Trump and Sen Rubio that you confuse the Kingdoms, as we Confessional Lutherans regard them. While God is King of all, our Lutheran concept of the Two Kingdoms can be useful.The Kingdom of the Right is God’s divine presence on earth, including the community of God’s Word and Sacraments, the Church. The Kingdom of the Left is “the world, the flesh and the Devil” along with the government, kings, presidents, legislators, the judiciary. As a Pastor in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, I serve the Kingdom of the Right, but I live in the Kingdom of the Left, as do you and everyone else. I am a citizen of the USA, a veteran of our military service, a husband, parent, and grandparent. I am also a retired professor, paramedic and equine reproductive physiologist..that standing in the Kingdom of the Left gives me the responsibility of a citizen of the USA. I am politically conservative, pro-life, an advocate for small and minimally intrusive government, and other seemingly contradicting views. But because I am a Pastor I have relinquished my “rights” to be politically active. My point in sharing this is that expecting the entirety of the Church to be an advocate for a candidate or party is something I am not going to do. I know you Southern Baptists do not have the same qualms about what I consider an improper mixture of Church with the State, there is a significant part of the Church that will not be represented in the political discourse. I’m even uncomfortable with my own Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s public involvement in the pro-life movement, even though I am passionately pro-life. To me it weakens my ability to reach other folks who have other feelings. In my personal judgement, Donald Trump is an abomination! He lacks any history of integrity in the political sector of our culture. That said, my congregation will never hear of the intensity of my feelings because that is a mixture of the Kingdoms.
