My favorite acting podcast. EVER
I don’t ever write reviews but I want, no I NEED, to thank you from the bottom of my ticker for this podcast. It’s focus on life experience, the journey, is totally unique and refreshing. I’m 44, went to drama school in my mid-20s in New York City, did a couple of guest spots last year on tv in my birthplace, Atlanta, but now I’m really struggling with whether to stay in it or even how to stay in it. I’ve been working in the writers’ room on a tv show in L.A. since December and was still taping for shows through my Atlanta agent who now isn’t even returning my messages so when your guests share their personal stories with passion and honesty and humor it’s like nourishment that’s keeping the dream alive for me. So thank you so much for this gift. I’m American and I’ll admit that although I watch a good deal of British television I’m not familiar with the majority of your guests by name but I’ve been discovering their work through your podcast and the internet. Then I’ll see if anything’s on the streaming services. If they mention a playwright whose work they appreciate I’ll run out to the library or Sam French to look for a title. Really fantastic to be exposed to new voices. A lot of your guests seem to come from modest, working class backgrounds. I myself grew up in the Southeastern U.S.A. No one I knew was an actor and if there were any after school drama clubs I certainly wasn’t exposed to them. Because we were videotaping skateboarding tricks we ran around with a video camera as kids, the kind you pop a VHS tape in, and began doing skits but being a professional actor wasn’t something that even entered my consciousness as a possibility. I’ve noticed with a lot of your guests, because of where they grew up and who they thought or were told their homes and upbringing made them, they didn’t really feel encouraged or like they belonged in the theatre or on television. If any podcast has voiced that struggle, which I can very much relate to, I’m not aware. I’ve certainly never heard it pressed with such truth and feeling as your guests and it really really resonates with me. Apologies for the long message. I’ll be sure to make a donation when I have the dough. Much love and appreciate. > Mark Los Angeles
