This podcast changed my life
I know that may sound a little dramatic but let me explain: You see, after my traumatic c-section, I knew I wanted a vbac but also had some new fears approaching birth that I never had in my first pregnancy. So, as I was in the first trimester of my second pregnancy and planning my vbac (well actually, hbac) I was listening to birth stories any chance I could, which included asking every woman who I felt comfortable with to share theirs. The problem was, when I opened the door to hear others birth stories, it followed with questions and their many concerns/fears about my upcoming birth plan. I was trying to be very intentional about what I allowed into my head space and I knew I had to find another way to get my birth story fix. Then I had a friend tell me about a different podcast that shares many different kinds of births. It was helpful for sure but the majority of the births were hospital births and not vbacs. I just needed a place where I could identify and find my people! On one of those podcasts, someone mentioned THIS podcast and I immediately started binge listening. THIS WAS IT. THIS is my tribe!! Not only did I find support and a group of people who had the same mindset as me, but I also found more support than I even knew I needed. I thought that simply having a supportive midwife, doula, and husband would be enough, and maybe it would’ve for the actual birth. However, the vbac link provided me with a “place to go” that I could check in, fill my cup, and tune the rest of the world out. Here, I collected facts, statistics, and tangible evidence that my choice to move forward with my hbac is NOT scary and was absolutely something I should embrace. Julie & Megan empowered me to be knowledgeable enough to walk into my vbac with confidence because all of my questions were answered (even the ones that I didn’t know I had until I listened to this podcast.). The women that have shared their stories here became my people. Their boldness to talk about all things birth gave me such a connection to them - we cried, laughed, and shared many smiles together. I channeled those connections while in labor and held tight to this support system of women that this show has created. Even after I had my successful hbac (woo hoo!) I listened to the what to expect post partum episode and it gave me the exact advice I needed to stop stressing and enjoy this short precious time. So, thank you Julie and Megan. You were virtual doulas for me and I have loved every minute birth geeking out with you! I don’t know if I’ll have another birth or not but I feel like I got my dream birth, pregnancy, and MORE thanks to you guys! So, thank you, thank you, thank you! There aren’t enough words to show my gratitude for this space you have created for me and all other vbac Mamas. I hope to share my story with you soon.
