40000 men lost
Victor Being a downstate rural Illinois resident your knowledge is so spot on! Rural Illinois is very similar to your experience in the ag production area of California! I’ve always had a interest in USA history especially WWII and Vietnam wars, learning from history. I had a neighbor growing up that drifted through life farming in Illinois then Alaska back to Illinois farming in different jobs off the farm. He always owned a Cessna 170 and weekends were airplane rides with Smitty. He flew P47 Thunderbolts out of England and lost his hearing from the engine and guns noise. We traveled to Peoria in the 60’s to watch the Battle over Britain and was a little emotional on the hour ride home to Fulton county. Same with the movie Patten. A few weeks you discussed the B17 war of Europe and your dad’s involvement. And the very bad planning and mistakes and maybe the USA Air Force command staff arrogance of fighting ability of the Super Fortress. My youngest daughter told me about the Masters of the Air series and I’m to the 5th episode and am better understanding your statement about the 40,000 brave men that were sacrificed during the early learning curve and lack of good flyer coverage in the battle! Thanks Fred Butt

VDH is the most cerebral and historically, fact-based thinker of our times. Everything Dr Hanson says is either based on core facts and often has sound historical references. It is a privilege to listen esp. for free.
