“The breakdowns Patrick provides are such an amazing resource; so educational yet fun to listen to by nature of the DP’s personality and candid walkthroughs of his thought process! Would appreciate some BTS photos to further illustrate the lighting setups, although the screen caps with drawn on indicators of where the lights are are super easy to follow. Due to Covid I’m currently working at a metal factory and I have this going in one ear, alternating between quick glances at the screenshots he provides on his website for reference, and my day flies by! My one thing about this show is that the interviews are overly focused on the dry side of cinematography and rarely lean hard into the artistic choices, lessons learned, favourite moments or memories, guiding principles, key takeaways or the philosophy behind the work. It was so hard to listen to Catherine Goldschmidt’s interview as she clearly was more of a right side of the brain person but we kept getting pulled into the timeline of her career and technical questions. I think interviewees might feel more comfortable if the interviewer acknowledged what makes the guest special in his eyes first and dives into questions surrounding that, and also try to interact with what they’re saying more rather than just saying “yeah” and moving on. Patrick has such a brilliant personality and ethos around his work too so it’s that much more of a shame to see that not come out in his interviews. Overall I love this podcast, it’s absolutely brilliant as an educational resource and I’m excited to check out the Patreon one too! Thank you and I’m sorry if my feedback seems unclear or harsh in any way!”
