A bit immature
This show felt like a Rojava For Dummies, but not in the good, or accessible way. It was centered heavily on the reporter, who instead of using the platform to educate, takes us on his path from ignorance to sort-of-knowing. This adds the the general sense of exoticism that Americans have about Syria and the Middle East at large, and it makes it seem as if the conflict is ‘too complicated’ for the average listener to care deeply about. It did not feel like this reporter should have been assigned this piece.

None of the usual jokes from Robert Evans here but the topic deserves the serious treatment it receives. Only one episode so far but it’s thoughtful and well researched and pitched at a level that absorbing whether you’re new to the situation in Rojava or more familiar. Well done 👍
