“I listened to the first episode on tracing. The host has the right idea about the usefulness of tracing, but he doesn’t seem to know what it actually is. According to this episode tracing is either copying someone else’s work verbatim for practice (this one is correct enough), or it is writing fan-fiction (it’s not), or writing in the same sub-genre as another work (it’s not). The sub-genre case is especially weak because nearly all stories can fit into one of a handful of structures, so this becomes too broad to actually mean anything.”
