Good morning podcast via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/03/24
I’ve got some experience in the technical side of speech synthesis and I’m as sure as I can be that the narrator is now a text to speech engine trained on the narrator’s natural voice from the earlier episodes. Might be because of illness or disability, or might be to save time and hassle. If you...Read full review »

Sorry do not usually write reviews. However on this occasion I had to, as a native West midlander that was born in West Bromwich and went to school in Rowley Regis. I have to inform you that these are two separate towns entirely with different telephone area & postal codes! These are two of...Read full review »

The delivery is perfect for the content.

I’m sorry but does he really speak like this? His narration, the song song voice that makes it sound computer generated as the phrasing is all over the place. I love the stories, but I have to listen to a paragraph from him and then replay it correctly in my head. I have persevered, but I can’t...Read full review »

What on earth is with the awful narration? It never used to be so ludicrously slow — this has got worse in later series. It is beyond me how this has 4.4 stars; I can only imagine the score is bumped up by friends or those who have only listened to earlier episodes before the narration became...Read full review »

I really wanted to continue listening to this podcast but I gave up as I just can’t listen to that awful droning narrator. Such a shame

The narrators monotone delivery is a bit unusual but I’m used to it lol. I do listen to it at 1.25 speed sometimes. The content is good though so give it a go.

I really love the work done by this podcast!! And I do so much that while I’m able I put my money where my mouth is…as we say here in the US. While I can which may not be much longer, I’m happy to do it. You guys seem to understand that TRUE Crime can mean TRULY HEINOUS,TRULY MACABRE, TRULY...Read full review »

Brilliant podcast. Well written and narrated and no irritating chit chat. Fascinating.

Couldn’t listen beyond the first 5 minutes. Narration is simply awful. First it sounds like an AI voice, then you think it’s a kid-on voice; then patronising, the overly dramatic. Whatever, this was unlistenable for me after 5 mins. Unsubscribing immediately

Best uk true crime show. One of the best true crimes over all. Brilliant.

I used to enjoy this, but only so much murder you can listen to. Just jumped back into season 8 having not listened since season 2. The narrator always had a rather strange delivery, but I don’t know what happened in the interim, as it is now almost unlistenable. I just don’t get why he has...Read full review »

I’ve had this podcast sitting in my library for quite a while, so today I thought I’d start listening. I chose episode 29, series 9, I think. The incredibly sad stories of devoted couples who would do anything for each other, even suicide pacts. Listening to this episode has opened my eyes up to...Read full review »

The content and way the content is told is great. The narrators voice is very robotic and way to slow so play at 1.25 speed to fix it.

Love this guy’s voice. Love the content. Really great stuff.

Sometimes the cases are interesting. maybe because we are hundreds of episodes, though, sometimes they are so dull. Often times they just repeating the same sentences over and over again. This most recent episode we heard him describe what she said in the police interview, then we heard him...Read full review »

The content of these podcasts is fascinating. Well put together but the narrators voice is SO annoyingly nasal. His intonation is odd and almost apathetic in places. Please consider changing narrators.

I don't get the reviews saying Benjamin's voice is robotic. He has a great voice for a TC podcast and this is definitely up there in my top 5.Read full review »

Really enjoy the actual subject of the cases but the narrators weird annunciation of words and pace is just awful. It’s such a shame because he has a good voice for story telling but he just needs to stop trying to make it sounds creepy. Sounds like a terrible AI.
Zeeolite via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 06/12/24
Some of the gory detail is unnecessary

Once upon a time this was a thoroughly fascinating true crime podcast, but in the last two-three years the cases that are covered are remarkably dull, without any of the twists or turns that made earlier seasons so compelling. More like a police blotter than actual storytelling, the podcast has...Read full review »

I used to really enjoy this podcast but the narrator’s voice now makes it painful to listen to. So monotonous and really slow. I tried listening on 1.25x but that just makes it sound weird. I used to listen to They Walk Among Us a few years ago and the narrator was really easy to listen to, but now he speaks wayyyyy too slow and over annunciates - it’s quite annoying. It’s like he’s trying to over dramatise the subject matter, which isn't needed. Shame!Read full review »

I actually thought this podcast was narrated by some terrible AI generated voice but finding out it’s a real person reading it like this is …. Hard to comprehend. Everyone’s main and pretty much only complaint is the speed. Listen to it on 1.25 or 1.5 and it’s great! I Tết tính content, cases not covered by other podcasts

I’m afraid this is unlistenable due to the narrator’s strange robotic slowness.

Tried this for the first time, got 20 seconds in and gave up. I’m sorry, but whoever decided on this style of narration needs to have a rethink. Ruins an extremely good idea. You don’t need to try and create tension and drama. You just need to tell the story.

I feel like the delivery of this is not it - monotone and very slow

Feel awful for criticising this very well researched podcast but it’s so challenging to make it through an episode with the narrator’s voice, I mean WOW. Really terrible monotone delivery ruins what is clearly a well researched podcast. Why has a person least equipped to narrate been given this job?! It really is surprising so many tune in regularly. For me, it is impossible to make it through an episode.
