“Hi there. Offering this with love in my heart in the spirit of community: this podcast needs a critical race lens that integrates racism and whiteness in the context of abuse and murder. The episode about the children adopted from Ethiopia really illustrates this point. I was screaming at the podcast - you cannot talk about white people adopting Black children from African countries without talking about race/racism/white supremacy. The white people who murdered Hannah weren’t just overly religious and confused. They were sadistic. To a Black girl and her Black brother. And many African children are actually stolen from their African families to be adopted out to white savior Americans who go on to deny their race and cultural heritage at a minimum (dangerous and abusive in itself), murder and abuse at the extreme end. There have been other episodes where I also wish the hosts were talking more clearly about systemic racism in the context of these cases. Whiteness did this to Hannah, and it needs to be said. Also, reiterating I am saying this with support bc I mess this up all the time.”
