“I’ve been waiting to write a review until I had dug into more of the episodes. From the jump, these are wonderful. This Ends at Prom DOES NOT suffer from the first few episodes being unpolished ramblings of people without vision for what they want their show to be, as so many early beginnings of podcasts do.
BJ and Harmony are engaging and pleasant hosts. The few tangents are easily forgiven, because they are usually just a dive into each hosts personal histories, which absolutely affects the viewing of these teen movies.
I really appreciate that they keep in mind WHEN these movies that they are critiquing were made. They don’t forgive the truly terrible stuff, but acknowledge that sometimes what wouldn’t fly now really was progressive for when it came out.
I would love if they could more frequently have guests on with different perspectives than theirs, although I know that may be difficult starting out during COVID. Obviously, Harmony’s perspective as a trans woman is meaningful and fascinating to take in. I just want even mooore, like the discourse about the importance of friendships from a person who is panromantic asexual in the Jennifer’s Body episode with Jordan Crucchiola.
All of that being said, the podcast is delightful. Harmony and BJ’s banter is engaging. The deep dives into their personal stories are engrossing. Their sense of humor is fun. BJ has the best laugh. The theme song slaps. I would definitely circle yes for This Ends at Prom. Can’t wait to hear what comes next!”
