In this episode on 'Conversations With", mental illness advocate Shaley Hoogendoorn talks to Phoebe. Phoebe lives with Bipolar 1 and runs the non-profit High Life UK. This conversation gives insight into what bipolar depression and mania looks and feels like. Phoebe tells the truth about the high highs of her mania and a manic episode that led her to being hospitalized. My pronouns are she/her. I was diagnosed with bipolar type 1 at the age of 21. I’m currently working before going to study Chemistry at Oxford University, and also am the founder of the non profit organization called High Life UK which aims to support people, especially young people, who are newly diagnosed with bipolar. I’m very interested in the connections between bipolar and creativity, and am myself an artist and poet.
