Wakefield is a conman
Dr Andrew Wakefield sparked the modern antivaxx movement by promoting false information about MMR vaccines. Ironically he initially wasn’t even trying to discredit vaccines in general, he just drummed up a media campaign to scare people into not using the combined MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) so that they would instead use separate vaccinations. Conveniently, at the time he was attempting to develop and then patent a new measles vaccine he hoped to profit off via people’s new found reluctance to use the MMR vaccine. Instead, his vaccine failed in trials and he was eventually stripped of his medical licence after his fraudulent schemes were exposed. Wakefield has since moved to the US where he has built a lucrative career in anti-vaccine punditry. Anyone who would give Wakefield a platform to promote vaccine hesitancy in the US is complicit in the deaths of thousands of people this year who have been mislead about the dangers of COVID and the safety of vaccines. Apple and other podcast platforms should be ashamed of their profiting off the lies of these frauds.
