Description
This episode is a special collaboration with the Minimally Millennial podcast, and we get to chat with one of the hosts, Shelby Boughton. Minimally Millennial is a podcast for young millennial adults or those stepping into adulthood for the first time and facing the question, "Why did nobody tell me this shit?" It is a safe place for where adults can admit they don't know what they are doing but are ready to learn! In this episode, we learn about Shelby's background, her initiation into solo travel, and the serendipitous connections that unfolded through her journey. She also interviews Geleen to understand her background on travel and how it has transformed her and contributed to her mission behind Travel Not to Escape.  This episode covers: Shelby’s Travel Journey Shelby's perspective shifted after losing her mom to cancer, highlighting the importance of living in the moment. Post-COVID, Shelby embarked on a solo trip to Scotland, describing it as transformational and awakening. She has also explored group travel with Under 30 Experiences, including a memorable Morocco trip in May. Shelby actively seeks to recreate the feeling of aliveness with each trip and is exploring possibilities of solo travel and remote work to travel more frequently. Geleen’s Travel Journey: Childhood focused on survival, discovered the joy of exploring during a study abroad experience in Rome, solo backpacking trip across Europe at 25, and continual travels that lead to full time digital nomad lifestyle. Pandemic revealed dissatisfaction with corporate lifestyle and her hiring a coach marked a turning point, leading to the decision to quit the corporate world. Mission to empower women to take control of their lives and pursue passions, especially in travel. Started a business and podcast to help women for transformation rather than use travel to escape their lives.  Transformation and Perspective Shifts: Importance of integrating positive aspects of travel into daily life for personal growth. Shelby reflects on using travel as an escape, challenges upon returning home, and incorporating travel mindset into daily life. Significant transformation from a corporate-driven desire for vacations to a more profound exploration of the world. Embracing authenticity, meaningful connections, and personal growth through full-time travel. Empowering Women and Solo Travel: Discussion on the challenges and barriers women face in solo travel and the importance of overcoming fears. Practical advice for overcoming anxiety and making solo travel accessible. Importance of self-reflection, understanding personal values, and revisiting them over time.
