What happened? Random schedule & shallow “research”
February 2020: sigh, yes I’m a Californian, and in general when one says “the Valley” (remember valley girls?) they are referring to the San Fernando valley — NOT where Mitrice was found, which is in an extremely isolated and lonely area. The wild comments about “porn being made in those houses” just sounded absurd — are we in the Big Lebowski now? You also seem to have the blinders on of young people who don’t understand how quickly nature can turn against you — especially when one is in an impaired state mentally. I have spent a lot of time hiking in Yosemite, and I’ve seen bad things happen to *prepared* hikers. If Mitrice had say sprained or even broken her ankle out there in that very rugged landscape (it is a very lonely area) she would have not been able to rescue herself. I think what happened to Mitrice is tragic, and I think the sheriff etc did not follow proper protocols. However I think it is fairly obvious she died from exposure, meaning hypothermia, which is much more deadly than it seems most people realize (and yes the shedding of clothes is a sign of its final stages). This podcast has not improved. This is a vanity project — two true crime dilettantes cover very well-known cases on a random schedule (once a month at most). They offer NOTHING new. This is not a serious true crime podcast as the hosts post under-developed “episodes,” which cover cases already covered in great depth by other podcasts, on a totally random schedule. This “podcast” seems to exist just to enable the two hosts, who work for other podcasters, to experiment occasionally with podcasting. The result is not worth anyone’s time. Many podcasts have covered the Mitrice Richardson case, which is a very important case, and I found their extremely brief discussion of it superficial and not illuminating. The most recent episode is a perfect example of the issues that cripple this podcast — they seem to think they can just wing it and produce a better podcast than anyone else, which is just arrogant and incorrect. Then there is their discussion of the disappearance of Kyron Horman, a child when he vanished years ago, which is also a very complex case. It is worth serious attention, and other serious true crime podcasts have covered the case in detail. Even Dr. Phil did a (rather good) multi-episode series on Kyron’s disappearance. This podcast tosses out one thirty minute episode on this case after months of nothing, adds zero to the discussion and covers no new ground, and then just drops it. Again. If you are content with getting one short episode that covers cases already discussed by other true crime podcasts, then I suppose you should subscribe. Otherwise there are many excellent true crime podcasts; this is definitely not one of them. The poster who criticized Sarah Turney for using “vulgarity” is an idiot. Sarah is out there asking questions, raising awareness, discussing her missing (and very likely murdered) sister in addition to calling out her appalling father. This is a man who videotaped his daughters, displayed as sorts of bizarre and abusive behavior, and very likely molested Alissa. He was also the last person to see Alissa — the day he claims that she just decided to run away and vanish completely. Get over yourself. Sarah wants justice for her sister — who cares if she uses a “vulgar”term? How old are you and why are you listening to true crime podcasts if certain words trouble you so much? This podcast had promise but the hosts didn’t seem to be investing much effort into developing their presentation and of course their own abilities as writers and proper researchers. They only released one episode a month, which isn’t enough to sustain a true crime podcast when there are so many out there that deliver excellent episodes weekly — both indie and well-sponsored podcasters featuring professional journalists. Now they seem to have just abandoned the podcast altogether, which seems very flakey to me.

Excellent coverage of this case where justice certainly hasn’t been served. Love the attention to detail and passion for justice.

I just listened to my first and last True Crime Twins episode (Missing Lauren Spierer). Ladies, please don’t pick a case and simply regurgitate the timeline and common theories. There are countless podcasts on this case already and you didn’t contribute anything interesting to make it worthwhile...Read full review »
