Over the past 15 years, a significant amount of money, and an even more significant amount of energy has been invested in cultivating a culture of modern innovation in Africa. Despite this, and despite numerous innovations whose praises have been sung from Cape to Cairo, the primary everyday challenges facing the average rural and semi-urban African household, still remain unresolved. This set of circumstances beg the question, are African Businesses innovating to solve Africa’s main problems, or are they innovating for aesthetic value. In this episode, I use real life examples to argue that our innovation efforts are out of touch, with the realities of our lived problems.
