Has no reverence for the Lord’s name and doesn’t care
I don’t listen to this show, but my husband has for awhile…he even purchased a hat. He sometimes listens in the car when we are driving and I’ve never had an issue with anything I’ve heard in the past. Unfortunately, on a recent show (the Matthew 7 episode about a Christian’s duty to lovingly call out sin and judge people by their fruits, as well as hold teachers to a high standard) I heard the Lord’s name taken in vain several times. My kids were in the car, so it really was a sucker punch, as we teach them that the Lord’s name is precious and to be used with reverence, not as a mindless filler word in a conversation. I emailed Kyle with my concern, and suggested that maybe he could use this to put together a show that talks about the Third Commandment, as new believers may not be familiar with what it means. His response to me was “I have no idea what you’re referring to, but if you don’t like the language used on our show, you don’t have to listen to it.” Since he wasn’t sure what it meant to take the Lord’s name in vain, I did respond with clarification that it would be when he and his guest used the term “oh my g**”. I thought maybe once he had clarification he would lay down his pride, but he just ignored me. His short and snippy response left me with a plethora of unanswered questions. Does he not know the 10 commandments? Does he not believe the Old Testament? Does he always think he’s right, even when his actions defy the commands of God? Does he know he was wrong, but is too arrogant to admit it? I didn’t bring this up to him to be hateful or rude; I did it because hearing that breaks my heart, and if a “role model” is doing it, new believers will think it’s acceptable, too. The Lord is too precious to me to keep quiet. I didn’t come at him in accusation standing on my own truth, I lovingly brought it up, backed by the truth of God’s Word, which trumps Kyle’s words every time. Had his response been humble, I would never have mentioned it publicly, but I think his response calls into question his character, as well as his ability to rightly divide and teach the Word of Truth. Speaking the truth in love is not wrong, especially when it has an impact that trickles down to others. We all mess up, and if we have the right posture to learn from those mess ups, God can use even those for His glory. I’m living proof of that and so thankful for His mercy. I pray Kyle will recognize that this and make it right.
