“I’m reviewing solely on season 1. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of things I didn’t know and reaffirmed some things I did. I’m taking away a star though because the show very responsibly addressed the issues of putting children on the internet, consent, commodifying your family etc. even Jo had to take a break. But then in the episode where she got all fired up after talking about unionizing it’s like Jo completely forgot about the ethical issues surrounding how these influencers use their kids. I was waiting for her to include that in the reasons she chose not to become a mom influencer but she only mentioned wanting to separate work and family. So disappointing. I’m personally very concerned about how much kids are put out for public consumption and how their lives are impacted. These kids are free labor and they are too young to give meaningful consent. I also felt like Jo too quickly rationalized problematic guests and gave them passes. As if she was afraid to upset them or risk people not wanting to come on her show. Especially the one who essentially said don’t look at the bashing if you can’t handle it and these women are fair game. So glad her friend at least called it out. All in all I enjoyed it but I can’t get behind completely sweeping the ethical issues around kids under the rug.”
