“Hey Jaclyn my boyfriend of a year and 7 months broke up with me today out of the blue. He claimed he was unhappy for a couple weeks and that he started to lose feelings because I’m “a completely different person.” He told me he enjoyed when we hung out one on one, but it wasn’t the same. When I asked how I’m “different” now, he told me I just was with no further explanation. I asked if it was because of his friend who also dumped his girlfriend recently for the same reason, but he said it had nothing to do with him. I kinda don’t believe that because his friend hated me for ridiculous reasons. I went out of my way to apologize to his friend to take some stress off of my now ex boyfriend because for some reason I thought that would change his mind. He also told me I was “too attached and too clingy” when I really only asked him to spend one day a week with me and to call me goodnight before bed. He was my first everything, and I’m so lost right now. After he told me he was unhappy because I was “clingy” I told him I’d be willing to compromise and give him even more space that I already did, but he said he knew that this is what he wanted. I just don’t think anyone should break up with their significant other because they’re unhappy for a short period of time. I had no idea he was unhappy until he told me the morning of the breakup. I just feel like if we had worked a few things out, that eventually over some time, he would be happy with me again. I’m just at a loss of words, and I would love your advice on the situation.”
