Good research, poor audio quality
Season 1: Long Island Serial Killer The research and storytelling was good and respectful to the people murdered and their loved ones. A good true crime listen without voyeurism. Some parts about Chief of Police James Burke seemed a little bit speculative, could not be verified and the reporters Alexis Linkletter and Billy Jensen failed to contextualize some statements. Audio: Sadly the whole podcast suffers from in part poor audio quality, especially if you listen over headphones. Narration, original audio and dialogue between the reporters varies in volume. Some parts, especially the narration is overamplified so you heard the hard consonants, p’s, t’s, and s’s too loud. Even though it is important to hear the new development in the case and it shows that the reporters care about this case that they recorded a new episode quickly, when a suspect was arrested in July 2023, the audio quality of some voices was so low that it was almost impossible to understand. Good audio quality is almost as important as research and storytelling and in this podcast they did not match.

Looking forward to next week. Trailer got me hooked. As a New Yorker I don’t know much about the case I guess I will now.

I absolutely love Billy and Alexis from The First Degree and I am so excited for this podcast! I always get excited hearing them tell stories from Long Island since that’s where I’m from and this whole podcast will be about that! Next week cannot come fast enough for the first episode!
