As South Africa marks 30 years of Democracy, SABC News has launched Democracy 30, a programme dedicated to marking this milestone. As with any new democracy, the South African public health system and policies have been thrust under the spotlight in past three decades. None more evidently than the country's transformation during the deadly  HIV/Aids pandemic. South Africa's health policies in the fight against the scourge, went from a widely-criticised denialist stance to one of the most advanced treatment programmes in the world.
