Dr Neslyn Watson-Druée CBE

Description
Arriving on these shores from Jamaica as a callow 19-year-old, the pitiful look from the bus driver as he gave her directions predicted an unpleasant future for Neslyn in the UK. However, despite the prejudice imposed upon her, she used her faith, determination, and wonderful character to overcome all the odds and achieve amazing things, including being honoured by the Queen. Her kindness and love shines through this conversation, so many times she reminded me of another nurse who arrived here as a 19-year-old. She tells how her journey took her from a cold winter’s night with no coat or proper boots, being snubbed as a midwife due to the colour of her skin, to being appointed the Chair of a failing NHS trust which she turned around.  So, the bus driver need not have worried, Neslyn was too much of a force for anything that lay ahead of her!
