Vaporwave is an art aesthetic that embodies the anxiety, disillusionment, and nihilism of the modern world. In music form, vaporwave dives deep into these unconscious anxieties, manifesting sounds from past decades - warping them, manipulating them, and summoning the ghost of the good times that were promised by modern capitalism, but never came. Vaporwave is an expression of the pains of the collective modern unconscious, taking the form of heroin-level escapism, ecstasy-inducing pop...

The Midnight is a well renowned duo in the synthwave world. Their album "Nocturnal" takes on the intense emotions that arise in the late night, like lust, love and regret. As our show ventures deeper in the world of synthwave, Noctural shows us what's possible when combining beautiful lyrics, deep synth textures, and the release of a repressed shadowy mood.

Today is a nice, hip-hop and R&B vaporwave album. Maitro’s EP Holiday Season takes the vibe you come to expect from a vaporware album and paints a picture of his personal idea of a holiday season. To us, Maitro’s winter world is one of nice west-coast beats and nostalgic 90’s samples. It’s something we love to see, especially considering Maitro himself is an artist from the Netherlands. While the condition of the world is stronge, we want to welcome you to enjoy the holiday vibes with....

What is up with the nostalgia around pre-9/11 cities? See-Muh Vanity, aka Dead Dream Vanity, explores this idea in the 2014 proto-ish vaporware album “fantasy Mayonaka Noapāto “, aka fantasy Midnight Apartment This record dropped during the early days of vaporwave, where the method of manipulating old samples to create something moody and dark started popping up all over the internet. This LP will engulf your entire body in the comfort of a leather couch stuffed with clouds. While you lay...

Today is our halloween special, and we have one thing on our minds: death. The album we’ve chosen for this year’s special is “Even The Gods May Cry”, by Origami Girl, a female asian vaporwave producer who also goes by the alias eightxnights. You can find her on both the dream catalogue and asura revolver music labels. This album takes on a hardvapour sound, infused with the occult-themed electronic music of Witch house. This album is a 45 minute rave set in the underground caverns of a...

We are venturing into the world of dark vaporwave. Chinese Hackers, a New York-based vaporwave artist, has one mission: combine vaporwave and industrial to make a new subgenere of vaporwave: vaporgoth. Their 2015 album, “死 ” (syuh) which translates to death, is an interesting experiment that is beyond creepy: it’s uncomfortably primordial. Today’s episode is a short one, but it’s definitely one to check out if you want to hear some creepy shit. Let’s set sail for Chinese Hackers’ 死

One of my favorite things about doing this podcast is finding hidden talent that makes me feel like I have NO talent whatsoever. Today, we are setting sail for Enraile’s SpaceWorld 2000, in our opinion, one of the most underrated vaporwave records on this show. Enraile is one of the youngest in our catalog of featured artists, but do NOT underestimate the insane talent that exists in this guy’s brain. SpaceWorld 2000 is a hyperactive vaportrap-ish album that moves like an EDM epic akin to...

VCR-Classique’s album “Atlantic Memories” is water-themed classic vaporwave record that has brought us much joy and relaxation. VCR-Classique is part of the business casual vaporwave label, which is one of the most prolific vaporwave labels to date. This record uses plunderphonics, a musical style that takes existing sounds and samples and creates its own composition out of them. This technique is almost signature to vaporwave because of its nature as an art form that reforms content of...

Once again, we have been pulled into the future funk label NeonCity Records for another BANGER. Today’s episode is an album just came out: it is Momo Club by Desired. This future funk album is tight, smooth, and syrupy sweet… the most intriguing part of this record is its soft concept though. “Momo Club” seems to be inspired by the dark side of being a celebrity idol; the drugs, the excess, and sometimes, the suicide. Did I just say suicide? Yes. I’m not kidding. You’re just gonna have...

And now, for today’s episode. In 2016, a collaboration between Vaperror, a Vaportrap pioneer, and telepath, the prolific leader in ambient vaporwave, was born. This album is a quintessential record of the vaporwave subgenre and microcosm known as “slushwave.” Slushwave is a subgenre that is attached to the prolific artist telepath, known for its heavily layered tracks and long runtimes. We have covered telepath many times before on this show, and in this album, the collaboration with the...

With only 2 LPs to his belt, Ahero has delivered a promising take on vaporwave by taking the classic sounds from the early era of the music genre (early, being only 6 years ago by the way) and adding his own blend of expertise as a hip-hop producer. Ahero is an artist you should have on your radar and we would love for you to listen to him with us. Let’s set sail for Ahero’s Ultima Flux.

With this COVID epidemic, the old lifestyles we had in the past are gone, and if we do get them back, we’ll forever be carrying the scars of what this changed world has left us. This feeling is perfectly captured in the this week’s album, Mission Indigo’s “The Final Exhibit.” This album carries themes of finality; bringing you to the end of the old world and an arising of the new. While this theme is something we’ve covered in past albums, like telepath’s “to the future” and “building a...

And now, for today’s episode. I think Brandon and I are proud to say that we’ve found another gem in the vaporwave space. Only 7 tracks in, we’ve grown SUPER invested in the works of Stevia Sphere’s Elevator Relaxation Tapes. This series of of short EPs based around an interesting concept: A bill was passed in the year 2046 where elevators must move a slow pace to allow workers time to rest, as “work collides with sleep” in this world. The concept isn’t the only interesting part of this...
