“Emily Reeves does a remarkable job identifying the many threads connected to safety in schools. This series was refreshing because it expanded beyond the usual polarized taking points of guns in schools. Reeves held space for contradictory perspectives, while honoring the noble efforts of a hometown community’s current effort to build a more effective system of safety for all students.
I personally enjoyed the final episode’s wisdom in recognizing when policies are based in fear rather than substantive evidence. The de-conditioning from fear-based reactions is a deeply personal and spiritual practice which local communities must engage with in order to successfully build safety and equity for all.
This podcast gives me hope that our local communities do indeed have the answers to solve intricate problems. We need only to come together and organize.
