Spencer is from Murrysville, Pennsylvania and attended Franklin Regional High School. He was a Cadet World Champ, and the Top ranked pound-for-pound wrestling recruit in the country when he committed to the Hawkeyes. At Iowa he went on to be a 5 time All American, 3 time NCAA Champ, and 2 time Dan Hodge Trophy winner, amongst numerous other accolades, accomplishments, and awards. We got to sit down with Spencer 2 months out from his first Olympic appearance and talk shop. We discuss his career at Iowa, his mindset when he's on the mat, the Olympic qualifiers, the craziest workout he ever did, how he battled through so much injury in his career, his love for Pokemon, and a whole lot more.
