Thoughtful, moving, nuanced and funny
Finding this show has been a shining beacon for me during a very dark time as I struggle with my physical shell in so many ways. I’ve been working to come to terms with my lifelong history of body shame, disorded eating, abuse, and now chronic illness and weight stigma. Like Ronald, I went from being someone with the kind of body that was accepted by society and having terrible anti-fat bias of my own, to now being in the opposite position. It’s extremely comforting to hear him talk about this so incredibly vulnerabily, saying so many things that we tell ourselves inside but think we should never say out loud, and just keep ourselves trapped in pain and isolation. Thank you for saying the quiet part loud, Ronald. Also: that voice. Could listen to him read a vacuum cleaner manual with that voice.

This is an incredible show. So beautifully intimate and self aware. I benefit so much from your own self observation, bringing those questions to myself. HATE that doctor. Hope he gets some serious education about the fallacies about fatness in medicine and in anti-racism. Thank you for sharing.

I LOVE THIS SHOW. Ronald’s storytelling is driven by the kind of soul-searching honesty that makes open safe space for your own self-reflection too. What a gift. He is such a winning host, and a wonderful writer, narrator and interviewer — a voice I look forward to spending time with every week....Read full review »

I’m hanging on every word. The Shame Spiral was one of the best podcast episodes I’ve ever heard.
