“Hello! I’m starting positive because New Girl is my favorite show and I love you both very much regardless of what I’m going to say you still get five stars because I appreciate what you do and I respect you.
Zooey being gone is likely a good move, as much as we love her she seemed to halt the show a bit. I had the feeling like we couldn’t talk about anything real without fear of offending someone. That feeling I had felt validated when I listened to the newer eps with just Hannah and Lamorne and were talking about real issues. Racist undertones throughout the show, etc. I do agree that Schmidt’s racist remarks were more to make him look dumb, but the fact that we had no black writers while doing that was .. yeah. We missed the mark.
While we’re on the topic I just want to say something. Lamorne discussed things in the show that have made him uncomfortable in regards to what I mentioned above. I always thought that Hannah’s “blaccent” was a CeCeism, or maybe I was hoping it was. Hannah is Canadian. To my knowledge she was not raised by black people. Brown skin does not equal black culture and it’s really uncomfortable to listen to appropriation while we’re finally able to discuss these topics deeper. I understand being chill, laid back, having banter, etc. I’m not trying to be mean and black culture is deeply engrained in our society.. but we have just got to stop the stealing.
Again I love you both and I’m incredibly happy that you’re back. I’m eager to see where this podcast goes because you both deserve great things!”
