“I first started listening to WHGS a couple of years ago when I first came out and was desperate for representation even though I didn’t really care for Ashley’s brash, loud hosting style. The producers and guests balanced her out enough for me to mostly enjoy listening. I also joined the Patreon and stayed on long after I found myself listening less because 1) I believe in financially supporting queer media 2) Ashley occasionally guilt trips listeners about how hard it is to run a queer media enterprise. I never took advantage of the live show benefits because I didn’t like how Ashley would complain on the podcast about crowds either being too quiet or too loud at her shows or even specific people who annoyed her. I never wanted to go to a show and then hear her complain about me on a later episode. I also got the sense that these complaints might be Ashley complaining about disengaged audiences and may not be that great live. Well, it’s recently come out that Ashley harassed (if you’ve heard the recording you know that’s putting it lightly) a fan named Olivia at a show in Indianapolis. Ashley did apologize but failed to mention what happened or how she will prevent it in the future apart from promising to “do better.” Based on her hosting style I genuinely wonder if she thinks she can “do better” at harassing fans? All of that made me realize I find the combative hosting style stressful even though I do enjoy some of the interviews because there just aren’t enough queer dating podcasts out there.”
