Mediocre collection of superficial basic principles
I subscribed to this collection because the title drew me in - "What great bosses know". Who wouldn't want to sharpen their managerial ability, with what I presumed were insightful cutting-edge lessons from what I presumed was an executive and managerial institute. After listening to over half a dozen of these on a recent car trip I was extremely disappointed. Sure, there's nothing *bad* about them, just they're very basic and very superficial. Really, this series should be called "Simple tips for the new boss" and not inflate itself with any pretense of helping a boss break from merely *good* to *great*. It doesn't surprise me to now learn that the series aren't, in fact, sponsored by a management institute but rather by a journalism program. So, really, we don't have managerial experts teaching about management, we simply have a polished public speaker talking about the basics. If you're a new manager maybe you'll find value in this series. However, if you're an executive looking to be *great* you won't find much substance in this collection.
