“Listened to the aeon flux film review because I was a fan of the show and wanted to see the background of the film bombing.
‘Peter Ching’, who created Aeon Flux, is only said three times in the review, and it’s just for quotes. The most interesting background of the film is Chung’s blog talking about his brief consultation with the film’s creators. One Google search or visiting TVtropes will get you some info on that, and that’s not even touched on here.
Instead the show pitches the film as Karyn Kusama just being held back from her vision, even though she didn’t understand Chung’s concept either. There’s some vague platitudes about how Kusama shouldn’t be allowed to fail because she’s a woman in a male dominated industry, but doesn’t really have much meat to the discussion because they didn’t name a male that Kusama should replace. Even though her career is mostly duds the hosts use her other credits, ‘Jennifer’s Body’ and The Invitation’, as what Kusama could do when the studios don’t interfere, but the harsh reality is Kusama is a one hit wonder.
The episode also talks about Girlfight as much as the Aeon Flux film, so no really a good episode if you’re looking for Aeon Flux discussion since the hosts aren’t really capable of deep discussions.”
