Came for Cumming; Stayed for Everyone Else!
David Morrissey is well-known for his extensive and meticulous research in preparation for his acting roles. In this fascinating podcast he turns his attentions to discovering other actors’ approaches and methods, framed in the context of one particular role. The first episode was with Alan Cumming and my great admiration for both Morrissey’s and Cumming’s careers to date was enough to lure me in. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this interview was as insightful as it was entertaining. My original intention was to dip in and out of further episodes as and when the guests/works were of particular interest to me. It soon became apparent, however, that I would actually want to listen to them all. There are familiar questions that come up regularly and it is interesting to hear the similarities and contrasts in the responses. It is enlightening to learn of the differing challenges faced by the diverse range of actors interviewed. Morrissey’s interviewing style is great - enough chat to put the guest at ease, but he is equally adept at giving them enough time to get across what they want to say. He strikes a perfect balance between keeping the focus on the piece of work in question and broadening out to wider themes. The warmth and mutual appreciation between Morrissey and his guests really shines through, but never strays in to the territory of self-congratulatory luvvie-dom. An excellent, compelling listen for budding actors and for everyone else too - I’m impatiently awaiting the next episode on Wednesday…

They delve deep into the art and the creative process, all the while keeping it lighthearted and fun. My favorite guest so far has...Read full review »
