Episode 76 do we live in a simulation
I’ve been enjoying this series very much as I do some exercise on my indoor bike. Episode 76 set me thinking and I felt that there are 3 alternative views that could be made for points in the episode: 1) there was a discussion of the computing power requirement to simulate the human brain but the discussion assumed that the simulation ran it real time. If we had the ability to simulate consciousness then 1ms in the simulated world could be a year in the computers time. 2) there was also discussion in the episode of the immense computing power required to simulate billions of brains but it could be there is a single brain being simulated (mine presumably as I believe I’m conscious) and all the stimulus for this brain is not coming from other conscious beings. 3) the argument that if it’s feasible to simulate a brain then we would and therefore are most likely being simulated seems a stretch. The underlying assumption is that there is a real world and someone in that world has created the simulation so we could be the real world sentients and not the simulants. Anyway, like all the shows it was very thought provoking. Thanks, David
