Wabi Sabi

Description
Steven Lester is a fine art painter best known for his sports images. He talks about capturing the back story. How the athlete overcame obstacles to arrive at the moment in time he's capturing. Having been a creative director for many years, Steven's job involved critiquing the work and driving toward a pursuit of business-style perfectionism. But, as a painter he could be his own worst critic, and so he endeavors to accept the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi - Wabi is understated elegance and sort of less is more, and Sabi is taking pleasure in the imperfect. Wabi Sabi invites one to pause and suspend that relentless pursuit of perfection to enjoy things as they are. And so Steven is now the professional artist, rather than the arts professional.  Preroll shout out to friend of the podcast
