Not worth the hype
I can’t believe they never thought or explored what this song meant to so many people and why. Maybe for 30 seconds (with their Russian interpreter), the hosts reflected on the people who lived in the USSR or East Germany and why the song did and still holds so much power. A self indulgent vanity project that never stopped to ask why the song was so popular in the first place—because there are so many people who feel deeply about the song, the historical events, and those feelings are unknowable to outsiders like us.

I’m three episodes in over on Spotify and this is an amazing podcast. It’s smart and gripping and the story of their investigation is every bit as fascinating as the story of the song.

Loved this, to the point I miss the intro/outdo song! Listened to it all on Spotify and am staying subscribed in iTunes because it’s just that good - great research, interesting and fun! Please do another deep dive pod!
