Stephen Deserves a Medal
When Rogers changed some of its radio show hosts in the Fall of 2021, I thought, “Hey, I hope Stephen Brunt finally gets to work with somebody who is nuanced, knowledgeable but also self aware to realize that one doesn’t know everything”. After all, he had worked, amongst others, with Bob McCown and Jeff Blair. But, after listening to Ben Ennis co-host with Stephen, I guess ‘three isn’t a charm’. I find Ennis’ certitude and his tendency to ridicule others (and, yes, I realize it’s low hanging fruit to criticize the performance and/or behaviour of certain athletes, who makes millions of dollars, but Ben do you not have failings?) off-putting. To spare myself further annoyance with Ennis, I find myself fast forwarding the second I hear Ennis’ voice so that I can listen to Stephen. ‘Hoping that Stephen’s next co-host (if he doesn’t retire before then) is somebody who meets the qualities I described above. How about Blake Murphy? Finally, in terms of awarding stars, if Stephen, were hosting this show alone (or with Murphy), I’d have no hesitation in giving it five stars. Alternatively, if Ennis were the solo host, I’d give the show no better than a half of one star. Hence, the three stars I have awarded it with is a compromise

Between bad analogies, mispronunciations and the all too regular ”no Jeff that word...Read full review »
