Always Give Pedestrians the Right of Way It’s not just drivers who have a duty when they see a pedestrian in the road. Anyone who sees a person on the road has to stop and give them the right of way. This might seem obvious, but there is an important reason for it. When people get hit cars, it’s usually because someone behind them didn’t see them. It’s up to everyone who sees a pedestrian on the road to make sure they don’t get hit. One way to do this is to give pedestrians plenty of space. If you can’t pull over, try slowing down so you can stop if necessary. You should also be prepared to swerve if necessary. If you see someone walking in the middle of the road, slow down and wait until they are clear before you move forward yourself.
