“Hey guys, wow, just reached episode 73 today from zero a few months ago; I have been hooked and can’t wait for more!
Both John and Jared (yes Jared, I put John first, poor fella!) have put so much work into this Podcast, follow the inspiring tips from some amazing non-native Chinese speakers! Each guest inspires me to keep going, I am now getting through HSK 4 vocabulary.
I have been learning Chinese (on and off) since I met my amazing wife over 15 years ago. I have pretty much self-studied Chinese with the use of many resources such as Rosetta Stone, Textbooks and websites. Over the last couple of years I started getting into Chinese Breeze Graded Readers which I thought were so helpful with Character recognition; then, comes along Mandarin Companion, wow! Absolutely hooked by these books. Great stories and easy to read, so I bought them all!
I have a good level of conversational Chinese and I am fluent in what I know, the next challenge is getting through intermediate to upper intermediate level as it’s such a big jump from HSK 3-4-5. Since I found Hack Chinese (thanks to Daniel Nalesnik!), I have really improved my character recognition so much by reaching 2000 words in 6 months!. I also attend a 2 hour a week online class with an amazing teacher, which helps so much.
My 11 year old son will listen to your podcast with me in the car and he is also getting through the Mandarin Companion series. He would be surprised to hear this review read out on your next podcast, shout out to my son Lee!
One thing I have noticed is every guest interviewed has been to College/University, what about the common, self-taught man living in the UK with a Chinese wife? I would love to go to Uni to do Chinese but hey, mans got a job and a family!
I would love to be on the show one day to share my Chinese learning experience!
Take it easy guys, keep up the good work!
谢谢。
