Issues with the Podcast
As someone with a very female voice that has worked in a call center, I can tell you that there is a bias against female voices. There are also research studies in relation to how technology has nurtured more volatile reactions towards female voices. ANYWAY- So I feel there is a lot of perceived cattiness or tension from those who listen to the podcast. Because I watch the YouTube videos, and I think there is a lot of missed visual social cues those who only listen do not witness. And this perceives “drama” from listeners can stem from a long history of presumptions about female to female dynamics. This is my long way of saying, please try not to feel too hurt by the reviews claiming there’s some war between Ariel&Rachel versus Maggie&Becky. It’s like when TryFans perpetuated some sort of war between Zach and Eugene (which I think seems pretty hurtful considering how much Eugene expresses his care for his friends. Especially towards Zach, when people are extra hard on him in without a recipe. And it was super unkind when people complained about Zach talking “too much” when he’s made it clear he knows, and he has OCD…and as someone who can relate, I know it helps me organize my thoughts to say things out loud too.). Please please please, bear in mind, We don’t know any of you personally. We don’t actually see what you guys do outside the podcast or what your friendships and conversations are like outside of work. I don’t know any of you personally either! What I do know is that a lot of listeners can be hard to satisfy. You have a lot of listeners. You won’t satisfy everyone. Back in the summer, I felt Becky talked a lot more, but maybe she’s reeling it in because she has other things on her mind besides a podcast. I love and have always wanted Rachel to speak more, and I feel those who have a problem with her politics are making personal attacks against her life based on people in their lives (projecting, they’re projecting). She speaks more now, but I sense a pattern in the audience disliking whenever one person speaks more for a short season. It’s true, not a lot of us can relate to Ariel’s life, and it would be nice to hear more from the others, but your listeners don’t have to bully her about it. Ariel probably doesn’t even realize it. She’s excited to be a part of a company she helped nurture and is a big supporter of the TryGuys and her husband. People need to chill. It’s true, we’d all like to hear Maggie speak more, but maybe she’s more reserved than Eugene (big Eugene fan over here obviously). Maybe she’s like Eugene but more polite about it and doesn’t vocally state how much he doesn’t like talking too much on the TryPod (and we respect that!). Or if she does want to speak more, well, that’s for you guys to handle. Honestly, you are making money off of this podcast, so I hope you’ll thibk it’s fair to talk about Tik Tok less, and to do more about social issues, the difficulties in being human, bring more women of color on, etc…being non-binary or adopting or pro-Natalism or so on and so forth. Stuff that has a lot more…I’m sorry ladies…mental stimulation. A topic my therapist agrees needs to be spoken on more is pro-Natalism. I’d like to adopt, but I’d also like to have one baby. I am an environmentalist, but I didn’t grow up in a family that is secure or safe. And I feel I deserve to make a family so I know what it’s like. Perhaps this is a topic you could get into? Limiting to 2 kid or 1 kid households. How expensive adoption can be. How despairing it is to have miscarriages. And how a part of reproductive rights is not just abortion but the right to have a baby. And the way genocide was committed against Latina woman historically in the U.S. when it came to weaponizing abortion to limit the number of Latino/Latina/Latine babies. And how abortion is a choice. And if anyone in the Trywives disagrees and is Pro-Life, perhaps you guys can lead a healthy and calm conversation about where people get their beliefs and getting along, kind of like those Jubilee videos. Anyway, sorry for the essay, I hope this helped!
