Love the podcast but starting to doubt the sincerity
My kids and I have enjoyed Pete’s comedy for years, I’ve listened to nearly every episode of this podcast at this point, and I love the search for answers (whatever that means) that he and his wife are on. However, after finally getting to see him live with my family last night and then having him actively avoid eye contact with my shy son who recognized him as we were walking by at the same hotel this morning (in Raleigh, NC), I have to doubt the sincerity of his belief that we’re all connected and just trying to “sparkle.” We were all caught off guard by seeng him the morning after the show and just wanted to tell him how much we enjoyed it. We even stepped outside as he was briskly walking away and I said “Pete” loud enough that I know he heard me. I get that most celebrities have to deal with a lot…this wasn’t “a lot.” This was my 19 year old son (who also has social anxiety) just trying to find the words and the “it’s okay to speak to me” body language from a celebrity who claims to understand how it feels to have awkward interactions and big fanboy feelings…what we encountered was an exceptionally closed off individual who wanted to pretend like we were ALL invisible. What he doesn’t seem to understand is that, for a lot of people, coming to a comedy show or getting out in public at all is “The Clam” choice…so you’d think his defense of that more open way of living would inform his attitude and energy in public. Nope. It was a great show (and still worth the 5 hour drive) but we simply wanted to let Pete know how much we appreciate him here in “the South” since he had specifically joked about not needing the mic due to the crowd size. I still love his comedy, the podcast overall, and the ideas he and Val work through/to in real time but hearing all his sycophantic interviews with other celebrities has a pretty sour aftertaste now. Still looking forward to his new special coming out but I sincerely hope “opportunist hypocrite” is a self-diagnosis he can find and remedy during his next ice bath.

More reviews of You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes
Pete Holmes is insanely funny. Definately worth the listen. Listening to this is one way to keep it crispy. Once you go Pakistan, you never go Backistan.

I'm diggin the hell outta this podcast. Pete is awesome. Funny, introspective, and good guests make for good podcasting. Also I can't get the low voice-kid from the swimming pool voice outta my head...."mum, mum, mum, mummay!" Mr Holmes you slay me.Read full review »
