Excellent content, hosting can be challenging
There’s so much I love about this podcast. A recent episode on patriarchy was phenomenal. I do have to admit that there are times I’ve had to stop listening because I find the host’s laughter inappropriate. I don’t want to curb her joyful expression, but when a researcher is sharing information that may be challenging for a listener to hear or integrate, or strikes a personal cord and the host is laughing, it’s disruptive at best and insulting and hurtful at worst. The most recent episode on consumerism is a case in point, I had to turn it off 10 minutes in because of the glib laughter, while I’m trying to listen to a topic that feels sensitive to me because of experiences with childhood poverty. Edited to add I’ve tried to come back a few times because so much research goes into these but the presentation style dosen’t suit my needs.
