Chartable raises $1.5m to help podcasters grow and market their shows
Monday, May 13, 2019

New York, NY— Chartable, the podcast analytics company, announced $1.5 million in seed funding today from Initialized Capital (led by Alexis Ohanian), Naval Ravikant, Greycroft (led by Alan Patricof), Ryan Hoover (Weekend Fund), The Fund, Jim Young, and a syndicate led by Lukas Biewald.

The new funding will help Chartable expand its suite of podcasting tools used by over 10,000 creators and networks, including Wondery (creators of the #1 shows Dr. Death, Sports Wars, and Dirty John), Vox Media (Today Explained, The Ezra Klein Show, Recode Decode with Kara Swisher), and Pacific Content (the agency behind podcasts for Slack, Mozilla, and Facebook).

“Podcasts are the next big medium, and Chartable is essential for anyone looking to grow their podcast,” said Alan Patricof, Managing Director of Greycroft Partners. “The podcast market has doubled for each of the last two years, which is why publishers are demanding better tools like SmartLinks and Chartable Analytics.”

Chartable also announced the launch of SmartLinks—shareable, trackable URLs that automatically route listeners to podcasts in their favorite apps, collecting both clicks and downloads. SmartLinks are the first and only solution for publishers to track the effectiveness of podcast marketing and advertising.

Without SmartLinks, creators are stuck sharing multiple links to their shows—one per app—so listeners can download on the player of their choice. And marketers can't tell whether a campaign actually drives downloads, only clicks. Chartable SmartLinks allow creators to post just one link to their podcast, and finally get insight into their full marketing funnel from click to download, regardless of whether a listener uses Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast or any of dozens of other podcast players.

Along with SmartLinks, Chartable offers Chartable Analytics, a unified view of podcast data. Before Chartable Analytics, getting an overview of podcast performance required visiting up to five separate websites and attempting to reconcile data with custom scripts. Chartable Analytics automatically collects downloads, engagement, charts, reviews, and more from major distribution channels like Apple Podcasts in one easy-to-use dashboard.

“I’m borderline obsessed with all the analytics from Chartable—even the ranking update emails are a must-open,” said Alexis Ohanian, co-founder and Managing Partner of Initialized Capital. “I've started 3 podcasts now and whether you’re a new podcaster or an industry veteran, you’ll find Chartable’s tools to be indispensable.”

“Podcasts are growing faster than ever before,” added Dave Zohrob, co-founder and CEO of Chartable. “We believe in the power of podcasts for communication and human connection. That's why we're excited to bring new innovation and insights to help creators get their voices heard.”
