Very pleased to welcome an old friend on the podcast in the form of Jordan Buckley from Better Lovers and previously from Every Time I Die. He's an accomplished artist, headbanger and thoughtful dude. He was WIDE open for this conversation and we go into spirituality, identity outside of what you "do" and full body headbangs. Better Lovers is coming for you, so be prepared.

We welcome Stin from Chat Pile onto the podcast this week for a few reasons. One of them being that their new record absolutely RIPS and you should listen to it now, it's called "Cool World" out on Flesner Recordings. Another reason is that he's an incredibly thoughtful and insightful human being about what art he's creating as well as the fact that ANYONE is paying attention to his band is a privilege. We discuss the best job he's ever had, making "art" for a living and what most people...

One of the hardest working bands in the scene right now, we have Katerina from Escuela Grind on the pod this week. The band just released their new LP and is on the path to working even harder than they have before but we discuss the lack of location for the band, her experience as an only child and internet opinions. She's an insightful human and was happy to dig in deep with her!

Josh is a friend. Josh has created a ton of great music with bands like Neil Perry, Hot Cross, Joshua Fit For Battle and much more. Josh also had a pretty intense journey the last few years to where he didn't know if he was ever going to be able to play guitar again. We get into it all and discuss New Jersey greats, short song life and a whole host of other things. I am glad he is still here with us, and am so happy to share this conversation with you.

We welcome the incredibly entertaining and thoughtful front person from industrial/hardcore/weirdo band Uniform to the show. His name is Michael Berdan and he loves cigars, artistic expression and Kill the Man Who Questions. We talk about all things Delco (Delaware County), his eating disorder that he documents in full form on this most recent recordings and a WHOLE lot more. Dig in and engage.

Who doesn't love The Get Up Kids? I mean, if you don't then I question your music taste but that is besides the point. We welcome Jim Suptic from the band to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal release, "Something To Write Home About". We chop it up about never taking yourself too seriously, some incredible stories centered around the "Something To Write Home" about era of the band and his Mount Rushmore of Emo. Let's go!

Thrilled to welcome a post-rock/prog musician, Rory Friers onto the show. He plays in the band And So I Watch You From Afar and hails from Ireland. A lot of cool and unique things going on with his band and music so I had to bug him while he was over here in the US on tour with Caspian. We got into the Ireland scene, his work in scoring music for films as well as his advice on where I should start with prog-rock. A good "bloke" as they say overseas and hope you enjoy!

12 Years Baby! We've come a long way and thanks for listening now, then and )hopefully)
Very proud to welcome the first OSCAR winner on the podcast in the form of Cord Jefferson. He is the director/writer of the film American Fiction which won the award for "Best Adapted Screenplay" and when I saw him in a Propagandhi shirt, I HAD to have him on the podcast. We hung out in his living room and chopped it up over an hour about his time in Tuscon, AZ, his Mount Rushmore punk/hardcore bands and...

Man, I love my job. I get to bring you these great discussions with people who are creating some incredible art and today, we have a big one. Duane Denison is the guitarist from noise rock pioneers, The Jesus Lizard. They are back with a newly released LP and aren't shying away from being the charming weirdos they are. Duane and I discuss the concept of selling out, getting a scholarship for playing guitar (!) and working in a library. Duane is very open and honest in his approach to music...

Beyond stoked to bring you this discussion with Matthew Wainwright from Cold Gawd to the pod waves this week. I became quickly obsessed with their new full length ("I'll Drown on this Earth") on Dais Records and wanted to know more about this very nuanced band that pulls from shoegaze, punk, hardcore and many other places. We discuss growing up in the Inland Empire, goosebump inducing moments and social media shoegaze. Listen and enjoy!

Pleased as punch to welcome my new friend (and hopefully yours) Jon Lullo on the podcast. He sang and played guitar in Down to Earth Approach who were active in the early 2000's and on the legendary Vagrant Records in their heyday. We spoke about his experience in the band that is well documented in a new podcast called "Even If It Kills Me". The podcast is an honest and revealing look at the experience of playing in a band that did a lot of cool things, but never "made it" in the traditional...

We have a damn legend in the game on the pod this week in the form of Tim Kasher from Cursive! They are releasing a new LP on Run For Cover and of course, jumped at the opportunity to talk to Tim about his screenwriting career, looking back at his catalog as well as the Omaha scene growing up (a lot of 311 talk, no joke). Go spin their entire catalog for goodness sake!

It always makes me happy when I put the shine on people who work behind the scenes at record labels, fests, photographers and a lot more that make this whole scene grow and thrive. James and Aaron run the incredible festival based in Tulsa, OK called Flyover Fest and in the past few years, has risen to prominence as one of the destinations for bands to play. We get into the origins of the festival, some do's and don'ts as well as the band they wish they could book.

A rare three way podcast with two friends of the show, Vadim Taver from This Day Forward & Chris Enriquez from On the Might of Princes. Selfishly, this is to promote/celebrate our bands show on August 25 at The Bowery Ballroom but more importantly offered us a chance to speak about our experiences with each of our bands circumstances that drew us back to playing shows again, revisiting old songs and nostalgia.

Inside were always a mythic and mysterious band to me. I was able to see them twice here in So Cal, which was weird for a band all the way from Long Island in the late 90's. They disbanded before they left a trail of interviews about who they were and where they came from. Fortunately for all of us their music is widely available now and they just played a few reunion shows to celebrate a re-release on cassette of their recordings. I was able to connect with Mike, the vocalist of the band as...

I think one of the coolest things to watch in independent music is bands growing up and evolving their sound but still staying connected to what compelled them to create in the first place. In my opinion, Four Year Strong are one of those bands we've all watched grow up, evolve and only become better over time. Dan O'Connor has played in FYS since it's inception and on the eve of their new record getting released I had to have him on the show to discuss the perfect hardcore record, growing up...

There's something in the water in the Merrimack Valley (a suburban area outside of Boston) and today's guest is yet another example of someone else who was raised in the cradle of that musical mecca for punk/hardcore and metal; Joseph Grillo. He played guitar for Garrison (Revelation Records) and currently fronts the band Her Heads On Fire (Iodine Recordings). Joseph is a seasoned veteran of our awesome indie music scene and we spoke of his various experiences with record labels, the need to...

The 2024 edition of New England Metal and Hardcore Festival is right around the corner so I brought him on to discuss what bands can do to make themselves noticed playing a festival, mistakes he made in the early days and how to create community. I am pleased to welcome Pedro Carrillo from Dying Wish to the show this week not only because I love his band, but he reps OC hardcore a lot by wearing a Throwdown hoodie on stage a lot...which makes me happy. Pedro and I nerd out about that, how he learned how to speak English, his passion for MMA and how he collaborates with his bandmates.

In a little change of pace I bring on friend of the show Joey Cahill, owner of Wanna Hear It Records, to try to answer a complicated question: "Why Is Hardcore so popular right now?" We drill down on a few theories, discuss some facts and pontificate on where it's going to go from here. Do we arrive at a conclusion? No, but it sure is fun to discuss and get the wheels turning.

Happy to have the incredibly prolific indie/emo musician Ace Enders on the pod this week! He is the main singer/songwriter for The Early November and let's be honest, if you grew up in the 2000's you know that already. Ace is a open and honest human and he shows that here as we get very introspective about his thoughts on nostalgia, ego and things coming naturally to people. The Early November just released a new LP on Pure Noise Records so go listen to that right after you finish this...

Viva la Birds In Row! We are lucky to go international here with Bart Balboa, the lead vocalist and guitarist from French screamo/hardcore/metal/awesome band Birds In Row. We discuss his life growing up in the rural French countryside, where his interest in politics began and how he got involved in being a tattoo artist. It's a great look into how band life operates internationally and the differences in our particular scenes.
