Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been taking a little break during the past few weeks getting my classes ready for next semester and working on some exciting new projects. Right now I’m about to head to Yellowstone National Park for vacation with my family, but I wanted to let […]

Cross-training includes Hiking too! Training comes in many different forms. I often see people punish themselves if they don’t stick to a prescribed training plan 100%. When you think like this … more times than not you’re setting yourself up for failure. Sometimes, when your plan calls for a long run, you go for a […]

Making time for exercise Adults who are physically active are healthier and less likely to develop many chronic diseases than adults who aren’t active — regardless of their gender or ethnicity. Three years of no activity. Then … training for a 50k race.  Crazy, right? The first step of training for an ultramarathon run after three years of little activity is gauging your fitness level. That’s exactly what I did on August 17, 2016. The plan was simple: Walk one mile to warm up and then […]

In 16 weeks I’m taking on the biggest physical challenge of my life -- a 50k trail run. Easy for an athletic person with lots of free time, but that’s not me. I wasn’t born with grace and athleticism. And time definitely isn’t on my side. My plan is to get creative with the time that I have, to tweak my nutrition to give me the energy I need and help me recover from the additional miles, plus do everything I can to keep motivated. That's the key. Why do we do these things? What is it...
