So glad BlueBook recommended this gem of a show. This podcast is all about appreciating stories and how they work. Hosts Jeff and Dan created a winning episode structure, based on Campbell and Vogler. I’m even seeing chunks of my life in terms of the story framework: call to adventure, refusal,...Read full review »

A bit 90s heavy, as the hosts would definitely agree with, but always fun and informative. I learn so much with each episode. Thanks to my boy Baxter for this wonderful rec.

Really enjoy this show. It’s a terrific reminder of some of your favourite, and not so favourite, movies. And the to and fro between the presenters is instructive and fun. Also an excellent resource if you’re a writer and want to explore the HJ structure.

This is very interesting & thoughtful podcast but it is missing half of the population, and most diversity. Doesn’t it help our hero’s journey for us to see ourselves represented in book film? How about Dorothy’s yellow brick road? Star Wars’ Rey? Thelma?

I love this podcast guys! Thank you so much for following through on your idea to do this! You do a great job of applying the journey to these films (I’m five episodes in right now - I had to watch some of the films first) and it multiplies the enjoyment of the films for me. My new favorite podcast. Love their analysis, really enjoyable to listen to, good chemistry between the hosts. I do have to admit guys that I’m not a huge fan of the long breaks where you talk about misc things 😅 very enjoyable podcast

Always on topic, dissect the film chronologically, whilst intermittent excerpts from the reviewed film keep you engaged the whole way. I also appreciate the refrain from crudity, foul language by remaining sincere and s as always on topic.

I listen to the podcast on my daily walks. I am currently writing my autobiography and find the use of Joseph Campbell in their film reviews extremely useful. I also rewatch the films covered. The Hero’s Journey is now my favorite podcast.

As a former librarian who read Joseph Campbell’s opus in library science school, I cannot help but see all narratives through this archetypal filter. An absolutely can’t stop listening podcast! Please cover Almost Famous!

I love this pod! It’s like I have these two funny, very bright friends that I sit around with and talk movies. ( only they can’t hear me).

As a big Campbell fan and film reviewer myself I highly rate this podcast. Great insight, research, conversation and humour. I even enjoy the mini book and beer reviews that arrive like refreshing palate cleansers. Cheers guys, keep doing what you love and follow that bliss. Lisa from Australia.

Good job guys. I recently discovered your podcast and I binged all the episodes in like 2 days. I was thinking a lot recently about the hero’s journey and thinking how fun it would be to make a podcast that just went through the hero’s journey of different novels and movies. Then I searched it on iTunes and found out that it already existed and it’s awesome! I binged the sh*# out of it. The...Read full review »

This review is totally self-serving. I’ve binged all of the current episodes and need them to make more so I’m here to spread the word.
